Merkland Cottage is a very special place. Sitting above Brodick with magnificent sea views. It is at the end of a track accessed via a kilometre and half of forestry road which passes through mature woodland.
The cottage which is around 250 years old gives a taste of authentic Arran, but with wi-fi and other conveniences. Complimentary seasonal organic vegetables are provided for guests from the extensive garden.
The cottage is ideal for walkers and dog owners. Goatfell and Corrie can be accessed via the forestry road above the cottage and you can walk from Merkland to Glenrosa without ever having to go on a main road, yet it is only 2 miles from the cottage to the centre of the village of Brodick over the fisherman’s walk by the sea or slightly longer by road.
Parking is beside the cottage, The garden is not enclosed, deer and badgers are regular visitors.
The owners live in the adjoining cottage, and are helpful without being intrusive.
The cottage itself:
One outside step leads to the hall giving access to the stairs and the 2 downstairs public rooms.
The room to the left of the hall and next to the kitchen is a living room with a sofa, a rocking chair, a smart TV and wood burner as well as a table and chairs. On the other side is a library containing books games and wet weather activities. Both have stunning sea views. The kitchen is at the back of the house and well equipped.
Upstairs one bedroom has a Kingsize bed and the other twin beds. Both bedrooms have sea views. The shower room and toilet is up stairs along with a walk in storage cupboard.
Merkland has oil central heating as well as a wood burner,
The Changeover day is Saturday and bed linen and towels are provided. The wi-fi signal is good.
Merkland is very close to Brodick Castle, nearby is Cladach, around which the original village of Brodick was built, it’s facilities include The Wine Port, which is great for daytime eating, an art gallery, garden centre and gift shops, whilst across the road is the popular beach bar.
Brodick itself has a museum, shops and golf course as well as the Auchrannie spa and leisure. It is Arran’s largest village and ferry terminal.
